It’s designed to be easy to learn, but with enough strategy and interaction to keep it fun and competitive for a wide range of players.
Corker was created by the team at Anchor Point Games, an independent game company inspired by Maine’s coastal culture, working waterfronts, and lobster fishing traditions. The game was developed to capture the spirit, strategy, and character of life on the Maine coast in a fun and approachable board game. Corker is Anchor Point Games first game, with many more planned.
The game is called Corker because a “corker” is something remarkable, impressive, or memorable. “A real corker.” The word can describe a great story, a brilliant move, or an outstanding feat, which fits the spirit of the game. It also has a nice old-fashioned feel, dating back to slang from the 1830s, when it meant something that could settle the matter or “close” the conversation, like a cork in a bottle.
So the name works on two levels: it sounds rooted and distinctive, and it suggests the kind of game moment players are chasing: the move, story, or win, like a trap full of keepers, that makes you say, “That’s a corker!”
No. Corker is not the same game as Corks. Corker is an original strategy board game inspired by Maine’s lobster fishing industry and coastal communities. While the names may sound somewhat similar, Corker is a completely separate game with its own theme, gameplay, and setting.
